December Edition - COVID-19 vaccine is here! A ray of hope!
It is fantastic news to hear the first patients in the UK have received their COVID-19 vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine has given the world tremendous hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. However, it is important to understand what the advent of a vaccination programme means in practical terms and for those who have medical conditions requiring surgery.

The pandemic galvanised the scientific community like never before and the vaccine is testimony to what can be achieved with collaboration, funding, reducing bureaucracy and a common goal. We have learnt much about how to manage such viruses and the best conservative measures to limit spread which include hygiene, social distancing and wearing appropriate protective clothing or masks, where required. As we enter 2021 it is important we continue to adhere to this advice.

For those individuals who have new or existing symptoms, please be reassured that we will do everything we can to ensure you are best protected from potential exposure to COVID-19 and any other pathogens. Do not feel that you must defer medical appointments or treatments due to concerns with COVID-19. It is important for both mental and physical health to discuss any medical concerns with your doctors and we are happy to help with this.

We continue to offer laparoscopic, robotic and if required for clinical reasons, open surgery. Our robotic programme has successfully treated patients throughout October and November with excellent results and glowing patient testimonials -

“During my first consultation with Mr Chand at the London Clinic, he mentioned to me the possibility of having 'robotic surgery' which I had never heard of... Mr Chand then explained to me very clearly how robotic surgery works and the benefits of it, including the fact that it is less invasive and that it reduces the level of pain, the scarring and the recovery time.
I had full confidence in Mr Chand's expertise and ability to take the best decision for me and I am glad that he decided that robotic surgery would be the most beneficial option in my case.
From the first consultation onwards, everything went very smoothly, all the details of the procedure were explained to me very clearly and all my questions answered. I was looked after very well pre and post-surgery by Mr Chand and all the staff at the London Clinic and I could not be happier with the level of care I received.
I have been recovering at home extremely well since, all my scars have healed very well, I stopped taking painkillers after two weeks and my appetite and digestion have come back to a near-normal level very quickly. After three weeks at home, I can say that I am almost able to function normally (except from lifting heavy things) and I will be back to work very soon.
Having robotic surgery was definitely the best decision in my case and I highly recommend this option to anyone who is eligible for it.
I will always be so grateful to Mr Chand for taking this decision for me, for his expertise and his care.”
